Shifting up a gear!

posted 12 Feb 2016, 08:05 by Alan B.
The last few meetings of the Moray MS Group, which gathers in Elgin once a month, have seen several new people attend and the group has proven its value to local MSers over several years. There also seems to be more energy to "do things" and today's meeting (12th February) hosted Keith Park from the MS Society who outlined some ideas of what could be done to improve services in Moray. In particular we talked about how access to Neurologists and to Rehabilitation consultants could be improved. Keith has plans to influence the organisations and key individuals whose decisions might affect us and there is a clear, emerging role for those of us affected by MS to lift the level of awareness and discussion in the community of what might be done to improve services.

Ultimately of course we all want a cure for MS. But in the meantime if we can find the means to live well with the disease and access timely, appropriate services we will all be happier and healthier. Many ideas are emerging for what we can do including fundraising and awareness raising. Of course we all have our limits. By definition MS brings with it problems of mobility and energy. But it also seems clear - certainly to me - that constructive, worthwhile, activity in the community makes us feel better!
