Mindfulness Training!

posted 20 Aug 2014, 02:26 by Alan B.
I'm really excited to announce that we are now recruiting to the Mindfulness for MS training course which will have its first session on 3rd October 2014 at the Oaks in Elgin from 11.00am - 1.00pm. The course lasts for 8 weeks and will take place on consecutive Fridays until 21st November.  On two of the days, October 10th and November 14th, the session will be in the afternoon so as not to clash with the monthly Support Group meetings. There will also be an optional follow-up half day session. Thanks to the Oaks for once again accommodating us in their lovely space.

Mindfulness is a drug-free way in which we can reduce stress, pain and other symptoms of MS. It is to do with being aware of everything that we do and trying to stay in the present. Clinical trials have shown that Mindfulness helps improve health-related quality of life of people with MS. It's based on simple ideas but takes a bit of learning and practice. The best way to understand Mindfulness, and to get the best out of it, is to follow a training course. And we are very excited that a course has been developed specifically for people affected by MS in Moray.

This course is for partners, carers, family and friends too - anyone affected by MS

If you want to find out more about what the course entails and the availability of places please get in touch. The course will be run by Momie Cain whom some of you will have met when she did a taster session at a meeting of the Moray MS Support Group earlier in the year.

Places on the course are limited and we urge you to register your interest as soon as possible - and no later than 29th August. You can do this by going to the Contact Us page.

The course is a joint effort and has the welcome involvement of the MS Society. Contact Keith Park who would be happy to talk about the course and the Society's involvement. He is available on 07554 116108  and at Keith.Park@mssociety.org.uk
